Snow, Snow, Snow!

It just keeps snowing! 12 inches of snow and counting! It has to be some kind of record for Centralia. The kids have loved playing in the snow...if only they didn't get so cold. Jude really doesn't like to be cold. Kylee on the other hand has a tolerance that outlasts both Jude and her mama. Titus is loving the snow too. So here is to snuggling up, sipping hot cocoa & keeping warm!

"Sometimes I go to the dinosaur doctor."

Kylee is certainly the bravest 3 year old I know! Yesterday at church she fell and hit her chin as she was playing on the teeter-totter. Her chin hit a completely flat surface and yet she ended up with a wound that was nearly two inches long and approximately a quarter of an inch wide (unless she stretched her neck, in which case it go considerably wider). We spent 5 hours in the ER and she ended up with a bunch of internal stitches and 9 on the outside. She was very brave and we certainly felt the prayers of many. I prayed for a doctor that would be good with Kylee and that prayer was answered. He was a funny man who was very gentle and very reassuring. As he came in the room to do the stitches Kylee looked at him and said, "Sometimes I go to the dinosaur doctor." Of course I knew immediately that she was referring to a room at Northwest Pediatrics that is decorated with dinosaur but the Doctor thought she was referring to his age. Though Kylee did not like the numbing shots (it was AWFUL) while she was getting the stitches she was completely relaxed and even had her eyes closed, it was amazing and clearly the hand of God in answer to our prayers. As the doctor was finishing up the stitches he hit a spot that was resistant to the anesthetic and she was in quite a bit of pain but at least it was the end! We are amazed at how resiliant she is and how brave she is. We have to say though, that we figured Jude would be the first in our family to get stitches!

Batters Up

Here is a shot of Jude that I couldn't pass up posting! He has been enthralled with his HAT. I was trying to tell him that it was called a helmet but he wouldn't have it. He was adamant that it is a hat. Who am I to argue?
I think he might be ready for a T-ball set...that way his swing will be a bit less like a golf swing.

Christmas in the heart
It isn't the tree with the tinsel,
Nor the lights blinking bright on the street.
It's the glow that we feel
And a joy that is real.
As we wish well to all that we meet,
It isn't the gift or the giver
That makes this a season of cheer,
But the way we care
And the love we share,
That puts Christ in Christmas each year.

All too soon...

It amazes me how quickly I can lose sight of the fact that these little ones of mine, that I love so dearly, will all to soon be out on their own. All too soon they won't need me to kiss their owies. They won't want extra snuggles. They won't want me to read them books. Soon there will no longer be a never ending mountain of laundry...or a sink that is constantly full of dishes...or their toys strewn about the house...all too soon.
So heres to savoring the sound of pitter patting feet running through the house and the sounds of their sweet laughter...heres to the messes!

Friends

These two girls are so precious. It is so much fun to watch the two of them together. (I think Caitlyn's mommy would agree). When I look at this picture it reminds me of the faithfulness of God. Friendship is such a gift and I am so thankful for the friends God has given us to walk with. My prayer for Kylee, for Caitlyn, is that they will learn to treasure one another as well as the others God brings into their lives.

The Pumpkin Train

Introducing our little Monkey and the Pricess Belle! The kids thought the steam train was fantastic! Jude was especially enthralled with the "Choo Choo!" It was fun to dress the kids up and Kylee and Jude LOVED the loud whistle and moving down the tracks! It was a beautiful day and we had fun playing with cousins Clara and Jacob and Auntie Manda and hanging out with the Great Aunties and Aarron!

Our Little Girl...mommy to her baby, ballerina, cheerleader and ??

Kylee's Poppy asked her tonight what her baby doll's name was..."Is it Penelope?" he asked. Kylee's response, "No Poppy, she pees in her diaper!" Gotta love it.
It is an amazing gift watching this little girl grow. It is hard to believe our baby girl is 3...she is expressing her thoughts and feelings in awesome ways (not always fun for mom but that is the way it goes) and she is exploring life with such enthusiasm and awe. Currently one of her favorite pastimes is to cheer. (thanks to the cheerleaders at Uncle Trevor's football games) The other day she told me she wants to be a cheerleader when she gets big. For now it is adorable, however, I have seen some of the moves the cheerleaders are doing these days and lets just say I am less than thrilled with the idea of my sweet little girl...well I am sure you get the idea. For now though we cheer away...making up cheers for daddy and having fun... it is quite cute. I will have to try and get some video to share.

Blessings

What a joy it is to be able to spend time with this remarkable woman! GG, as we call her is Kyle's grandmother. She is a woman that I love dearly. I cherish the time we get to spend together...the time Kylee and Jude get to spend with her. She is full of interesting stories of Kyle when he was younger and Lance too.
She is an encourager and simply a sweet woman who has a heart full of love to share. We are blessed by her in immeasurable ways!

Our Old Stompin' Grounds

Kyle and I spent last weekend in Seattle enjoying some alone time reminiscing about the past and dreaming about the future. We revisted some of our favorite spots. The picture above was taken at gas works park at the beautiful little spot Kyle proposed more than 6 years ago. It is hard to believe we have been married for 6 years but then again we have two beautiful children and some amazing memories to prove it. It was this particular spot where I first felt as though I was the luckiest girl in the world...now 6 years later I know it to be true. I have an amazing husband who is the most incredible father, two astoundingly adorable children, and a father in heaven that reminds me daily, no matter what life brings, that I am His. Does life get any better? I really don't think so.

A friend loves at all times...proverbs 17:17

I am sure every mother hopes that her children will grow to be lifelong friends...
It is such an incredible blessing to watch that friendship develop. I love to watch as Jude imitates his big sister, or Kylee her little brother. The precious moments when they show concern for one another. The other day I observed as Kylee bent over little brother who was sprawled out on his back after coming to an abrupt stop on our hardwood floors. She stood over him and asked in a sing songy voice if he was ok. She then soothingly told him he would be ok as she wrapped her arms around him and then struggled with all her might to sit him up. Then she sat and hugged him and told him she loved him as she rubbed his back. What a joy to witness such love. Above all else I love to hear their laughter. I pray that God will continue to bless their friendship in the many years to come.

Rain

As I sat in the car today with Kylee and Jude the rain made beautiful music all around us. Rain.
The last month has been extremely difficult for me and the storm that surrounded me was oppressive and overwhelming. Losing my Grandpa Hans...having no assurance of his salvation...watching him suffer in his last hours on this earth...it was one of the most difficult and trying seasons I have endured thus far in my life. And yet God's word reminds me;
There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time be silent and a time to speak, a time to love ad a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace. What does the worker gain from his toil? I have seen the burden God has laid on men. He has made everything beautiful it its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end. Ecclesiastes 3:1-11
I cannot fathom all that God has done. I cannot fathom all God will do. In this moment all I can do is trust Him. My unanswered questions will most likely remain unanswered until the glorious day I see Jesus face to face. Today, today, I allow the love of God to wash over me as those raindrops that crashed all around us, surrounding us with such a beautiful music, wash away my fear and uncertainty and replace it with peace.

I'll Praise you in this storm
And I will lift my hands
For You are who You are
No matter where I am
Every tear I've cried
You hold in your hand
You never left my side
And though my heart is torn
I will Praise You in this storm.
lyrics of Casting Crowns' I Will Praise You In The Storm

Kylee & Jude and their Great Grandpa Hans

We cherish the memories of this wonderful man. We celebrate his life and what he meant to all of us. It is impossible to put it all into words especially now, when the grief and sorrow that we feel is so heavy, but the legacy he has left is an incredible blessing and we will miss him deeply.

Pretty Little Ballerinas

Kylee attended her very first dance class! The Mama's didn't get to watch the first class which was so sad but Kylee felt like such a big girl. In the picture you see her with two of her sweet little girlfriends, Caitlyn on the right and Maggie on the left. Aren't they simply adorable? The season will end with a recital in June so plan to come and watch them perform!

Happy 25th Wedding Anniversary

Jude and I headed to Nebraska to celebrate with my Aunt Michelle and Uncle Jake who have shared 25 years of marriage thus far. It was a wonderful way to spend a few days...the travel days were a bit long but we did well and it was certainly worth it! So for those of you who missed out on all the fun here are a few snapshots of the fantastic weekend! Congratulations Aunt Michelley Belly and Uncle Jake! We love you!

Summer Vacation

We had such a great time in Sunriver! It was warm and beautiful and we had plenty to keep us busy! Bike riding, hiking, playing at the park, swimming, a pony ride, put-put golf and more. It was awesome! We have had a great summer just spending time together...the summers certainly make up for all those long days and extra hours that we miss Daddy during the school year. It is such a blessing to have him home. It will be hard to see him go back to work!

Summer Fun

We have been having so much fun this summer...playing in sprinklers and kiddie pools, the sandbox, the dirt, and the rocks. Outdoors is definately Jude's favorite place to be...soaking up the sunshine!

Our Family Portrait

Kylee is 3! She is an amazing little girl. In this picture you will see that she is developing some awesome artistic abilities. This is one family portrait I should get framed! 6 short months ago this little girl wouldn't draw a smiley face because she was afraid she wouldn't get the eyes, nose and mouth in the right place. My little perfectionist has found pleasure in just going for it! Hooray!
I think over night she decided that she can do ALL things on her own...after all she is a big girl now. She has always been rather independent so this doesn't come as much of a shock but she has found some new boldness in being 3. Her birthday celebration was full of family, friends and of course lots of sugar...I think it took 2 days to wear off. It is such a joy to be the mother of this precious little girl!

Kylee & Daddy Campout

Kylee and Daddy took our tent a few doors down to Uncle Trent's and they had a campout with the Friberg's! Apparently the Friberg kids are accustomed to such excitement as Kyle did not hear a peep from their tent. Kylee on the other hand was so excited she just couldn't settle down! Yay for summer break!

Warmth

To run carefree through a field with the warm sunshine pouring down on you...or to watch your precious children run through a field without a care...there is nothing like it. I was reminded that though we have days of sorrow and pain or even just medicority, we can choose the joy we know so clearly as the sunshine splashes around us to get us through to the next field of flowers and sunshine.

The Oregon Zoo

I wonder if Jude will end up being a bit claustrophobic? Kylee tends to hold on pretty tight and most of the time, like the picture, he just rolls with it. We spent an awesome day at the zoo...it was a gorgeous day! We lathered the kids up with sunscreen and donned their hats and set off to see the sites. They were thoroughly entertained by the animals and people alike. We stopped by to see a bunch a baby turtles that were getting ready for transport to various ponds in the zoo. Their transportation was a bucket and when Kylee saw them in the bucket she asked, "Are they cooking them?" Hmmmm...isn't that what the zoos are all about?
Fun times!

Fun in the sun...

We had so much fun at Burfoot park in the sun! Yes the sun! We had a picnic and we played in the sand and rocks, a favorite past time for both Kylee and Jude. We threw sticks for Titus who loves the water and we found a lot of shells. Kylee was particularly fond of the shells with barnacles and the little babies that live inside of them. It was such a wonderful way to spend a Saturday! Bring on the sun! We are all ready for more days like this.

Tighty Whities

And the potty training commences! Just had to show off this little guy in his tighty whities! Isn't he just the cutest little boy! It is hard to believe he is already 14 months old! He is using a lot of signs now...suddenly the light came on! Please, more, thank you, all done, cracker, eat...as you can see they are all centered around food! :) And I have to say that using sign language really cuts down on the frustration and fits that follow that frustration when he can't communicate what he wants! He still says uh as he uses his "words" but I will take it!!
He is such a boy...the other day in the car he belched then proceeded to mimic the sound over and over. Apparently he is quite pleased with his new found bodily function! Oh the joy!

Beautiful Women

When I was up at UW I lived with some amazing girls in an awesome community. We were required to participate in small groups. This group consisted of a mentor from the community and a mixture of girls from the other houses. The group I was in my senior year was particularly wonderful. We still get together...not as often as we would like but we take what we can get.
We all have a common love in life, Jesus. I have learned so much from these women and they have made a huge impact on my life...in college we shared about what God was doing in our lives and it is the same now. With these women there is an unending source of encouragement, love and acceptance. This group was truly a gift from God and I am so thankful for each of these dear sisters in Christ. Our mentors Brooke and Nancy are missing from the picture above...we gathered to celebrate Naomi (middle) and the miracle of the new life growing inside of her.

The Pledge of Allegiance

We finally managed to get Kylee on video reciting the Pledge of Allegiance! Enjoy!!

Pretty Pup

Titus is doing well...we have had some challenges but he is making great strides at becoming the dog we were dreaming of. He is a beautiful dog, very sweet and gentle (most of the time). He is doing really well with Kylee and Jude and they both adore him and that is really fun. He is still learning and so are we! I had no idea what we were getting ourselves into...I feel like I have three children and Titus is a bigger handful than Kylee and Jude put together most days. Ahhh but I wouldn't trade him.

Go Jude Go!

Can it be that Jude is actually walking? I still can't believe he is a year old. I love this new stage. He loves to laugh and make faces. He loves to give kisses and snuggle. His vocabulary consists of Dada, Mama, bye bye, nighnigh and uh for everything else. He doesn't do the sign language like his sister...he doesn't seem to have the patience...and mama doesn't either I guess because I really slacked with Jude on this one!
All in all it was a wonderful year...and I anticipate that the coming years will be just as amazing! What an incredible blessing it is to be a mother of such beautiful children.
